New Year’s Eve in Key West lands on Thursday, December 31, 2026, and the island counts down the way it has for decades: with a drag queen in a giant red high heel, a conch shell lowered from a Duval Street roof and a pirate wench coming down a schooner mast at the harbor. Two of those drops have already been published for 2026, the harbor party is on its venue’s 2026 calendar, and a live music sunset sail is on sale for the last evening of the year. Here is what is confirmed, where it happens and how to move between the spots once Duval Street fills up.
Quick Picks
- Best for the classic Duval Street countdown: Sloppy Joe’s Bar, Duval and Greene streets.
- Best for a stage show before midnight: Red Shoe Drop at Bourbon St. Pub, upper Duval Street.
- Best for an all day harbor party with no cover: Schooner Wharf Bar, Key West Historic Seaport.
- Best for live music at sunset: Fury’s Commotion on the Ocean sail, Historic Seaport.
- Best near Mallory Square: Sunset Pier at Ocean Key Resort, Zero Duval Street.
The Duval Street Drops
Key West does not have one ball. It has several drops, and the two biggest sit at opposite ends of Duval Street, about five blocks apart. Last year, Keys Weekly reported that several blocks of Duval Street were closed to vehicles most of the night and advised picking a drop site well before 11:55pm, because walking between them close to midnight is slow. Both Duval Street drops below are confirmed for 2026. For the bars along the way on any other night, see our guides to Key West bars with live music and Key West nightlife.
Sloppy Joe’s Conch Shell Drop
Sloppy Joe’s Bar has published The Countdown to 2027: Sloppy Joe’s 33rd Annual New Year’s Eve Conch Shell Drop on its official New Year’s Eve page. The bar calls the drop a Key West tradition dating to 1993, and its page promises updated LED screens, brighter lighting and immersive audio for the crowd on the street. The conch is lowered to the roof at midnight. The bar is at 201 Duval Street, Key West, FL 33040, on the corner of Greene Street, and it has live music every day, so the inside room stays busy all night. Arrive early if you want a spot with a clear view of the roof (get directions).
Red Shoe Drop at Bourbon St. Pub
Bourbon St. Pub has listed its Red Shoe Drop for New Years Eve 2026 to 2027 on Thursday, December 31, from 8pm to 1am outside the pub at 724 Duval Street, Key West, FL 33040. This is the 29th annual High Heel Shoe Drop, and the star is picked through the national If the Shoe Fits competition. According to the pub’s If the Shoe Fits page, Jada Pinkett Fox won the National Finals in Key West on October 10, 2026, which makes her this year’s Queen of New Year’s Eve. The winner stars in a three hour stage show on Duval Street and rides down in the red high heel during the countdown to midnight. Watching from the street is free, and the pub sells a VIP balcony party at New Orleans House, where the shoe hangs; call 305 293 9800 for availability. Come for the show, which builds for hours before the drop itself (get directions). For more of the scene on this end of Duval, see our guide to gay bars in Key West.
Schooner Wharf Bar: Lowering of the Pirate Wench
Schooner Wharf Bar lists its New Year’s Eve Celebration for December 31 on its 2026 special events calendar: the Lowering of the Pirate Wench at midnight from the mast of the tall ship America 2.0, with the party starting early in the day with three local and national acts, party favors and champagne. The 2026 lineup and flyer are marked coming soon. Last year, owner Evalena Worthington made the descent against lit countdown numbers, with cannon fire at midnight, live music from 11:30am and no cover charge, per the bar’s 2025 countdown page. The bar is at 202 William Street, Key West, FL 33040, on the harbor walk, and it is the calmer choice when Duval Street is packed (get directions).
Fury Commotion on the Ocean Sunset Sail
Fury’s December 31st Last Sunset Sail page is already selling the final sunset of the year with a “Hello 2027” banner. The live music option is Commotion on the Ocean, a sunset sail with a band, light appetizers and margaritas, beer, wine and champagne, leaving from the Historic Seaport at the corner of Greene and Elizabeth streets, Key West, FL 33040, or from the Opal Key Resort marina at Front and Greene streets, confirmed when you book. Fury lists the New Year’s Eve sunset cruise from $64.95, about two hours long. It is a good early evening plan that gets you back to shore with hours to spare before the drops (get directions).
Sunset Pier at Ocean Key Resort
Sunset Pier threw a New Year’s Eve party in 2025 (a giant lime wedge dropped into an even bigger margarita at midnight, per Keys Weekly). Its 2026 plans were not announced as of early November; check its Instagram. The pier is built out over the water at Ocean Key Resort and Spa, Zero Duval Street, Key West, FL 33040, right next to Mallory Square, and its official page lists live music every day of the year with first come, first served seating and no reservations (get directions).
Planning Your Night
Start at Mallory Square. Its nightly Sunset Celebration, with street performers on the waterfront, is the last one of the year on December 31, and the square’s organizers say it begins about two hours before sunset. From there, Sunset Pier is next door and Sloppy Joe’s is a short walk up Duval Street. Pick your midnight spot by 11pm: Sloppy Joe’s sits at the low end of Duval, the Red Shoe is around 700 Duval, and Schooner Wharf is a few blocks west on the harbor, so you will not see more than one drop live. The pub’s VIP balcony is the only ticketed option among the drops, and Fury’s sunset sails are worth booking early since prices start lower for early bookers. Key West is small, but with Duval closed to cars, rideshare pickups near the drops are slow after midnight, so stay within walking distance of your hotel or plan to walk back. Schooner Wharf and Sunset Pier are both open air on the water, so bring a light layer for the harbor breeze.
